On another sunny Saturday in Withdean Clarence Mitchell, the Conservative candidate for Brighton Pavilion, was joined by Councillors, candidates and party activists alike for a great canvassing session in Withdean. The team went to Copse Hill and Highbank, as well as visiting Surrenden Crescent to hear residents’ views on the issue of travellers illegally taking over Surrenden Field.
After visiting Surrenden Road with Cllr Ken Norman, Clarence said:
“It was another great opportunity to meet the voters of Withdean face to face and to hear their concerns about the Greens, both locally and nationally.
Rightly, the growing influx of travellers in Surrenden Field was causing the greatest upset for people in Surrenden Crescent; not least over how long it was taking to get the necessary court order to move them on, the unhygenic disposal of their waste and the sheer cost for the council to clear up after them. Ken and Ann Norman, as the ward’s Conservative Councillors, reassured residents they were working solidly to ensure the travellers were moved on as swiftly as possible.
Green policies on grass verge parking, 20mph zones and the spread of parking controls were also the source of much discontent.”
