I was delighted to welcome the Prime Minister, David Cameron, to the city yesterday, where he spoke about a wide range of regional and national issues after he delivered a key speech about future changes to the benefits system under a Conservative government.
The Prime Minister’s speech was well received in Hove yesterday, where a number of important changes were announced. His key policy announcement would see 18 to 21 year olds carry out up to 30 hours of community work each week in order to qualify for and receive benefits. This is just one area of the government’s long term economic plan that is continuing to put Britain on the right track.
Mr. Cameron also went to take media questions about both local and international issues. In an interview with The Argus, he described the Green administration of Brighton and Hove City Council as a “shambles” and he echoed my call to freeze the council tax in the city.

Later he met party members privately where I was very happy to update the Prime Minister about upcoming campaign for Brighton Pavilion and to discuss our local priorities. It is a privilege to get the Prime Minister’s personal support in the vital fight to return Brighton to full prosperity through common sense Conservative policies. It was also good to see the Prime Minister spending time meeting members of my team after the event.
