Conservatives turned out in force today to take part in the Big Beach Clean-up organised by the Argus newspaper and Brighton & Hove City Council. Those Conservatives rolling their sleeves up were local councillors, the MP for Brighton Kemptown & Peacehaven, Simon Kirby, and newly-selected Conservative candidate for Brighton Pavilion, Clarence Mitchell. The event was part of the Argus Take It Home Campaign aimed at the many thousands of visitors and residents who have been flocking to the beach during the recent heatwave.
Conservative Group Leader, Cllr. Geoffrey Theobald, took part in the clean up and, speaking afterwards, said: “It was great to see such a good turn out from all sections of the community all united behind the goal of making our beach a place to be proud of. The selfish behaviour of some beachgoers has been one of the unfortunate downsides of the recent fantastic weather and so we wanted to do our bit to show that it won’t be tolerated. I very much hope that, with successful campaigns like this organised by the Argus, clean up events in the future may not be necessary!”
