On Saturday Clarence Mitchell and the Conservative team took to the streets in Patcham ward to meet and talk to residents, particularly about the planned development of the national park opposite Ditchling Road. Clarence, along with Cllrs. Geoffrey and Carol Theobald and Ann Norman, and Council candidates Karen Miles and Nick Taylor, visited Cuckmere Way and Ditchling Road.
Having spoken to many residents along both roads, Clarence said:
“This was another great opportunity for me to get to know as many Pavilion constituents as possible. Those voters we spoke to in Patcham were consistently disillusioned with the performance of the Greens and nor were they just Tory voters. High parking charges, the spread of parking controls and illegal traveller encampments were high on the doorstep agenda.
It was also very surprising just how little was known about the current proposals for Ditchling Road on the edge of the South Downs National Park. We made sure people were fully aware of the consultation period to ensure their views were taken into account. It was also great to have such highly respected Patcham Councillors as Geoffrey and Carol Theobald with us.”
It was amazing that almost no one on the roads directly opposite the development area had any idea of the plans. It is just another example of the current Council’s drive to push through policy that residents don’t want and, in this case, don’t even know about!
